In recent years, the number of adult patients who need or want to undergo orthodontic treatment has increased, due to the aging of the population, which is preparing to reach older ages, with improved quality of life and self-esteem. The search for a better quality of life begins with healthy habits and a healthy diet. It is essential to have healthy teeth and gums so that chewing can be performed efficiently. For dental health to occur, teeth must be well-aligned and interlocked.

In dentistry, in general, materials and techniques evolve to make treatment more effective, comfortable and, above all, aesthetic, since the search for beauty is inherent to human beings. In line with these objectives, patients are increasingly seeking aesthetic orthodontic appliances that are not too visible.

Orthodontics, which initially used fixed braces with metal rings on all teeth, evolved and developed smaller braces, initially metal and later ceramic, which contributed greatly to aesthetics.

However, they still kept adult patients who needed orthodontic treatment away from the office, so in the 1970s Lingual Orthodontics emerged as a completely invisible alternative to aesthetically satisfy these patients.

Lingual braces consist of metal brackets designed to be placed on the inside of the teeth. They offer the following advantages for the patient: maximum aesthetics, no need to remove the braces on special social occasions, no change to the contour of the lip during treatment, and a solution for people who do not accept the conventional fixed braces technique.

It is extremely important that people do not just look for an aesthetic device, but rather a functional one, capable of correctly moving teeth, and the lingual device meets these requirements, allowing even some dental movements to be carried out that are very difficult to perform using conventional techniques.
